The Math Block Master is an interactive number visualization game that helps students build their place value understanding. Players are shown blocks (visual representations of numbers) and must figure out what number is represented. Math Block Master gives teachers flexible ways to strengthen students’ number sense and readiness:
Warm-ups / Number Sense – Begin math class by letting students try a level: recognizing what blocks represent helps them start thinking about numbers concretely.
Practice / Reinforcement – Use in small groups or individually for students to build understanding of tens, ones, and how numbers are constructed.
Assessment / Understanding Check – After lessons on place value, use the tool to see which students grasp the concepts well (by checking accuracy and level reached).
Competition / Motivation – Use challenge levels and score tracking to motivate students: who can reach the highest level, or who has the best accuracy?
Differentiation – For students who struggle, start with simpler blocks (e.g. units only); for advanced students, move to bigger numbers or combinations (e.g. tens + hundreds).
Error Correction / Feedback – Review mistakes: which representations students got wrong, and why; then reinforce those specific number concepts.
